What people don’t realize is how cheap it actually is to travel and live abroad.
.
We are exposed to premium ads that only shows us the best highlights of travel and create a complete illusion of how “perfect” and “magical” your trip can be if you stay in this hotel, have these luxurious dinners, and go on these “one of a kind” experiences.
.
We’re also exposed to always strive for the best and latest of everything at home and so when we look to travel we have a false sense of standards.
.
What’s interesting is that I was stuck in that whole illusion myself.
.
Thinking that I couldn’t afford to travel because it’s too “expensive”.
.
When I travelled I thought I had to stay in the best hotels. Convinced that paying cheap meant that I would sacrifice the quality of my experience.
.
Which led me to believe that I had to give up on my dream to travel and get a job so that I can “afford” it.
.
What I’m discovering is that for one there are amazing, clean, modern, beautiful, and safe places we can travel to for far less money than we think.
.
And second I realized that I don’t even want those perceived as “premium” experiences because it robs me from truly experiencing the adventure and the culture.
.
Because most of those “premium” places are just a copy of what we can have in our home country.
.
When we adventure out the perceived and advertised “best experiences”, we immerse yourself in the local culture.
.
Staying near where locals stay. Instead of the predictable resorts.
.
Eating where the locals eat. Instead of where tourists are hanging out and paying a premium.
.
Doing the things locals do. Instead of doing the same boring stuff we do at home.
.
Having new experiences we never had before. Rather than repeating the same travel experience we had last time.
.
Plus doing the opposite of everyone else are doing, we realize we pay a whole lot less for far greater experiences.
.
Tie that in with an online business and we get to travel 365 days a year rather than the standard 10 days we get in the corporate world.
.
So let’s get out there and explore the culture. Live like a local. Be curious. And love the life we live.
